Ibrox which is located on the south side of the river Clyde is the third largest stadium in the whole of Scotland having a capacity of 50,987.

Revision techniques

The best way for me to remember information is by hearing or reading it repeatedly like a song if it keeps playing the lyrics just automatically get stuck in my head. For next weeks assessment im going to keep looking over the notes and remember it in different sections mabey even re-write some bits that i really struggle to remember.

Ibrox Disaster

On the afternoon of January 2nd 1971 Rangers were hosting Celtic in a thrilling game were it ended 1-1. With Celtic scoring in the 89th minute it looked like they had the match but with just seconds left Colin stein scored a dramatic equalizer.

You can imagine the delight the 80,000 Rangers fans must of been feeling but a horrible disaster was about to unfold. over at the east terrace on staircase 13 a huge wave of people stumbled down the steep stairs falling over each other and causing a huge pile up, crushing steel barriers with the impact but some people did not notice what was going on and continued to surge down.

 Ibrox Disasters

66 people died that day and 140 were injured and remains one of the worst tragedy's at Ibrox to date.
A bronze statue of John Grieg was unveiled on the 30th anniversary on top of a memorial to those who had died and every year since, the club pays its respects by placing a special wreath.

Rangers & Celtic

The first time these rivals met was on May 28th 1888 at Celtic park were the home team won 5-2. This old firm derby is one of the oldest in the world and these two Glasgow giants are the most successful in Scottish football but that is not the only reason there is strong hatred for one another. The two clubs are largely concentrated in Glasgow and have huge support throughout the world in towns and cities which makes these two clubs successful and popular. The main difference between these clubs and why they have history is because of there religious status, Rangers being Protestant and Celtic being catholic.

In my opinion Scottish football has died for some years now with no real excitement with Rangers getting relegated to division 3. Celtic may have been happy with the decision but to be honest it has killed the top tier of Scottish football with no real competition involved.

Rangers and Celtic have played each other 399 times, Rangers winning 159 and Celtic 144 also 96 draws.

Rangers have won the league title 54 times, the Scottish cup 33 times and the league cup 27 times.

Celtic have won the league title 45 times, the Scottish cup 36 times and the league cup 14 times.

Founding Fathers

Rangers were founded in 1872 by four men who decided to make a football team. Peter McNeil, his brother Moses, Peter Campbell and William Mcbeath had no idea what the club would become today. Although the club did not have there first annual meeting until 1873 were officers would be elected, the club had already been born.

Founding Fathers

After this meeting formal training sessions had been put in place and a fixture list had been drawn up but because they had left it too late they could not apply for membership of the Scottish Football Association and were not eligible to play in the Scottish cup that year. The team was more of a family affair when the McNeil's were joined by a third brother, Hugh and two more Campbell's also joined. It wasint until 1876 that Rangers made there first Scottish cup final but were beaten 3-2 by Vale of Leven but this was the beginning for Rangers in Scottish competition.
