You can imagine the delight the 80,000 Rangers fans must of been feeling but a horrible disaster was about to unfold. over at the east terrace on staircase 13 a huge wave of people stumbled down the steep stairs falling over each other and causing a huge pile up, crushing steel barriers with the impact but some people did not notice what was going on and continued to surge down.
66 people died that day and 140 were injured and remains one of the worst tragedy's at Ibrox to date.
A bronze statue of John Grieg was unveiled on the 30th anniversary on top of a memorial to those who had died and every year since, the club pays its respects by placing a special wreath.
