Rangers were founded in 1872 by four men who decided to make a football team. Peter McNeil, his brother Moses, Peter Campbell and William Mcbeath had no idea what the club would become today. Although the club did not have there first annual meeting until 1873 were officers would be elected, the club had already been born.
After this meeting formal training sessions had been put in place and a fixture list had been drawn up but because they had left it too late they could not apply for membership of the Scottish Football Association and were not eligible to play in the Scottish cup that year. The team was more of a family affair when the McNeil's were joined by a third brother, Hugh and two more Campbell's also joined. It wasint until 1876 that Rangers made there first Scottish cup final but were beaten 3-2 by Vale of Leven but this was the beginning for Rangers in Scottish competition.
